On Saturday 10th of December 2016, Shrewsbury designer-makers Parker and Arrol marked the Christmas season by opening the doors of its Wyle Cop studio to raise much-needed funds for the Shropshire Dyslexia Association.
The artists Meg Arrol and her daughter Winifrid Bradley, ably assisted by Winifrid’s daughter Bronwen, collected a total of £95 made up from donations and a percentage of the day’s sales of their trademark hand-painted velvet silks.
Visitors were treated to hot mince pies and Meg’s delicious mulled wine whilst they browsed the hand-painted scarves, cushions and other bespoke textile designs.
Teresa Chilles, tuition coordinator with the Shropshire Dyslexia Association, said: “Thank you for the cheque that you have donated to the Shropshire Dyslexia Association, we will be using it to subsidise the hire if an additional room for touch typing for 2017.”
“This will allow us to take on a new tutor on a Saturday morning and give other dyslexic students in Shropshire the opportunity of specialist tuition.”
